2010:
City Ranks No. 6 for Digital Prowess as reported in AnnArbor.com, Nov. 20th: "Ann Arbor's digital prowess was recognized for the third year in a row as the city was named the No. 6 "Best Digital City in the country by e.Republic's Center for Digital Communities Magazine." The survey measures and assesses the use of information technology by local governments. Ann Arbor was recognized for launching an open data catalog, introducing online payment for water bills, using social networking such as Facebook and Twitter, adding eTRAKIT which is an online permitting records system that includes planning and development information, inspection results, the ability to look up permits online and check registration with the city or schedule inspections. This survey is open to all U.S. cities with a population of 30,000 or more.
UM Hospitals Earn Top Honor for Safety as reported in AnnArbor.com, Dec. 1st: U Of M hospitals recently received kudos from "Leapfrog", a national organization that tracks hospital safety. UM Health Systems was among 53 institutions out of 1200 to receive a "Top Hospitals" recognition. When Melissa Danforth, the director of "Leapfrog" was asked what stood out about UMHS, she said "the institutions computerized physician technology which allows doctors and other prescribers to order medication electronically, reducing the likelihood for problems such as drug interaction."
The American Institute for Economic Research ranks Ann Arbor at No. 2 on the list of best small cities. The institute analyzes factors such as cost of living, student concentration, income per capita and other indices.
CNN/Money magazine named Ann Arbor in its "100 Best Small Cities" list.
Parenting magazine ranks Ann Arbor as the fourth best city for families.
Kiplinger put Ann Arbor on its list of "10 Great Cities for Raising Families". Among Ann Arbor's pros were its highly ranked school system and 2000 acres of city parks as well as several children friendly museums.
Ann Arbor is the nation's fourth most livable city, according to Forbes. Based on a 5 point data analysis of the country's 200 largest metro areas, Forbes ranked Ann Arbor 4th. The data points studied were unemployment, crime, income growth, cost of living and artistic & cultural opportunities. Being a college town was one of Ann Arbor's strongest features.
2009:
University of Michigan ranked No. 1 by the National Science foundation for spending on research among public universities. For all universities, public and private U-M was ranked No. 2. Also, for the first time in the past 25 years U-M received more federal research funding ($636.2 million) than any other U.S. public university according to 2009 NSF records.
Ann Arbor named #1 walking city in Michigan and #3 in the U.S!: Prevention Magazine and the American Podiatric Medical Association teamed up to rank over 500 U.S. cities on their walkability. It becomes clear why Ann Arbor is ranked so high with 8.47% of people who walk to work and its high percentage of green space and parks, adding more destinations for pedestrians.
Ann Arbor Library: Named one of the top libraries in the country in a new survey by Library Journal. The Ann Arbor District Library was one of 10 libraries to achieve a five-star ranking.
2008:
AARP Ranks Ann Arbor #1 in America's Healthiest Towns. Criteria included 20 measures of vitality. They looked not only at the physical aspects of a community but also at the health & habits of the people who live there.
Money Magazine in its August 2008 issue has ranked Ann Arbor as the 27th best small city in which to live. The criteria focused on income, housing, education, quality of life, and leisure and culture.
A survey by Prevention Magazine and the American Podiatric Medical Association rates Ann Arbor as the third best walking city in the U.S.
Arbor was ranked in the top 25 of Popular Science Magazine's greenest cities. The cities were ranked on 30 categories including air quality, electricity use and transportation habits.

With the University of Michigan as a central part of our community, we are lucky to be exposed to one of the world's more prestigious campuses. There are literally not enough days in the week and/or money to take in all the cultural activities available. World-class orchestras and entertainers are a regular part of the cultural scene.
Ann Arbor has a vibrant downtown area - full of gourmet restaurants, gift shops and galleries. The streets are always crowded with residents, students and out of town visitors enjoying the area. As a result, the demand for downtown living, has created many new residential lofts and condos, so people can enjoy all the activity in their own backyard.

Along with the University of Michigan and the attendant intelligentsia and diversity, Ann Arbor residents find themselves surrounded with stimulation. Of course, it is hard to ignore the outstanding sporting events associated with the Big 10 - football, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc, etc, etc. Again, wherever your interest lies, it can be found in Ann Arbor.

Is the location good? Well, I think so. In 4-5 picturesque hours you can be in the beautiful "up North" country of Michigan. Enjoy the Great Lakes or ski resorts, or soak up the beauty. In 30 minutes, you can be in downtown Detroit, with the major sporting teams of the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings or the Detroit Lions. And now Detroit has introduced legalized gambling with three casinos. In 40 minutes, you can be in Canada. Or you can head west. Chicago is just 4 hours away.

If you have to be sick, Ann Arbor is the place to be. With the attendant resources of the University of Michigan Hospital and the personable, friendly atmosphere of St. Joe's, one can be assured that their medical needs will be addressed. There are 802 total beds (excluding the Psych Hospital & Kellogg Center) available at University Hospital and 747 total beds in the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, including MacPherson Hospital in Howell and Saline Hospital. St.Joe's recently was a 1999 national award winner in the
100 Top Hospitals Benchmarks for Success study. The University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital ranks nineth nationally in Child Magazine's first-ever top 10 list.

Talk about social responsibility - Ann Arbor is a caring community with so many groups ready to give of their time, energy and money to help their particular cause. Whether your focus is on social services or fund raising for the arts, rest assured there is a plan or organization already in place.
Does it sound like I like being in Ann Arbor? Absolutely. I feel very lucky to have moved to this city 31 years ago. It is small enough to make you feel at home, but large enough to give you lots of things to experience.

2007:
US News & World Report 2008 university edition ranked Concordia University in Ann Arbor as 40th among institutions in the category of "Midwest Baccalaureate Colleges". Up from 44th in '07.
The "Ann Arbor News" reports Ann Arbor's Azi Weinzweig and Paul Saginaw will receive Bon Appetit Magazine's lifetime achievement award in a ceremony in New York in September. The award recognizes the impact the co-founders of Zingerman's have had on the way America eats. Bon Appetit observes, "That Zingerman's serves as a specialty food store to the country thru their mail order division".
In its annual ranking of the top public universities, US News & World Report magazine has ranked UM tied with UCLA for the 3rd spot - behind UC Berkeley and UVA.
For 2007, Sperling's Best Places rates Ann Arbor 5th in the top places to live. Judges factored economy, jobs, cost of living, climate, education, health & healthcare, crime, transportation, leisure, arts & culture and overall quality of life.
1st in country for knowledge-based work force. According to trade publication, Expansion Management's fifth annual Knowledge Worker Quotient, Ann Arbor tops the list for educated, talented labor.
Ann Arbor ranks 3rd in the category "Smartest US Cities" by Forbes Magazine based on the percentage of people 25 years and older who have at least a bachelor's degree.
CNN/Money Magazine has rated Ann Arbor one of the top 25 US cities in which to live.
According to Bicycling Magazine Ann Arbor is among the 21 best cities for cyclists.

In Money magazine's ranking of the best places to live in the United States. Ann Arbor ranked 25th. The rankings which include only medium sized cities, judged towns based on factors such as health care, education, commute and leisure and cultural activies
The Michigan Theater received the League of Historic American Theatres (LHATs) Outstanding Historic Theatre Award which is designed to recognize a theatre project that demonstrates the highest standards of excellence in its vision, execution and service. The award recognizes the distinction of accomplishment and impact created by the theatre's program and services as an operating historic theatre.
July 2006 Google, Inc. announces that starting in the fall it will staff a facility in the Ann Arbor area with up to 1,000 employees for AdWords, its expanding advertising division.Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School was named the 2006 Grammy Signature School, also known as the top program in the nation.
Ann Arbor Finished 2nd among 100 cities listed by baby.first.com which measured variables to prenatal care, availability of doctors, incidence of pregnancy complications and stress levels.
Recently in a book called Life 2.0 by Forbes Magazine Publisher Rick Karlgaurd, Ann Arbor ranks among the "IQ Campuses" which are energy centers of biotech and InfoTech where new wealth is created.
2004:
The Ann Arbor News reports according to the latest annual report by the U.S. News & World Report magazine the University of Michigan is the second-highest ranked public university in the country. The only public school ranked higher was the University of California-Berkely.
Ann Arbor's Huron High School is among top 100 public high school music programs in the country according to GRAMMY, the same arts organization that hands out awards to recording artists. Huron is waiting to see if they will be selected as a GRAMMY Signature School (top 50).
In its April issue, Food & Wine Magazine has named Zingerman's Delicatessen to its list of the 25 best food markets in the world. San Franciscos' Ferry Plaza Farmers Market was the only other US name on the list. The common factor - the high quality of their products.
The 3/15/04 Ann Arbor News reports Sperling's Best Cities', rates Ann Arbor as the 8th best city for DATING because it ranks high in dining out and scores in the 98th percentile for percentage of singles.
According to Sperling's Best Places', rankings of the top 100 metropolitan areas in the country, Ann Arbor is rated the 6th lowest stress city in America.
2002:
In a recent survey by The Media Audit, Ann Arbor ranked third in the nation for Internet usage with 70.2 percent of its citizens saying they went online at least once a month. Washington, D.C. and Madison, Wisconsin tied for first with 73.4 percent.
The University of Michigan was second in leading the nation's top 100 research universities in Research and Development spending, according to the Science Foundation report. Private and public-sector investments at U-M totaled $509 million in 1999, the last year with available numbers. This amount helped push the state's spending to more than $18.7 billion, second only to California.
2001:
Zero Population Growth, the environmental organization, gave Ann Arbor an A+,
13th out of 140 independent cities, for its kid-friendliness. The criteria
included safety, unemployment rates, parks, air quality, class size and
grades, population growth and good health care
No. 2 city for women by the Ladies Home Journal. This ranking focuses on crime rate, lifestyle, public school quality, job opportunities, quality health and child care and the number of women in local government.
The January issue of ING (a financial services company) listed Ann Arbor as the 3rd best place to earn and save money (out of the largest 125 metro areas in the US).
Joan Nathan, author of Jewish Cooking in America has named Ann Arbor's Zingerman's Deli as one of the 10 great places in the US to order a genuine Jewish nosh.
